How to use sulfur on my plants: the sprinklers

Sulfur, together with nitrogen, allows the formation of proteins in plants. However, unlike nitrogen, it is not transmitted through the transpiration system, nor can it move through the more mature leaves. A lack of sulfur can be seen by a striking yellowing of the new leaves.

Therefore, every orchard needs a continuous and sufficient supply of this mineral in its soil, something that will allow the normal functioning of the crop itself.

Sprinklers are tools that allow us to use sulfur on plants, regardless of whether it is sulfur in yellow powder or sulfur mixed with water. The use of a professional sprayer will allow the presence of the phytosanitary product spread throughout the orchard.

To use sulfur in your garden or vegetable garden plants with a sprinkler, you should take into account a series of rules to follow that you can include in the basic tasks of preventive maintenance of the crop. They would be the following:

  • Apply it at temperatures lower than 28º, because if applied at higher temperatures, the sulfur could burn the plant. It is recommended not to use it with high humidity.
  • Do not mix with oils or alkaline reaction elements.
  • It should not be applied on fruit orchards whose fruit is to be preserved or on orchards where sensitive fruit trees (pear, apricot or apple trees) have been planted.
  • It is convenient to apply sulfur with a sprinkler on days with little wind to gain precision.
