Herbicides for spring crops

What are the best herbicides for spring crops? How will their use affect the crop? These are some of the most common questions that, during these dates, any farmer can ask himself when planning his plantings in the spring months.

One of the options to achieve a correct preventive maintenance of the crop in this season is to resort to the use of herbicides. Below, we will show you some of the most effective types of herbicides that can be applied to control weeds in the plantation.

Herbicides for spring crops: preemergent and postemergent herbicides

In order to choose an effective herbicide for spring crops, we will take into account both the type of plantation and the state and type of weeds we need to control, without forgetting the physical characteristics of the crop soil.

Following a planning that shows the possible weeds that may sprout in the field, the most suitable herbicide for spring crops will be applied, discarding the use of the typical herbicides for wheat and barley. Its application is recommended one month before sowing. In this sense, one of the cataloging with which we can find the different herbicides, is the one that is governed by the seasonality of its use.

If you need herbicides for bare soil where weeds have not yet sprouted, you can apply the so-called pre-sowing or pre-emergent herbicides. On the other hand, if weeds have already started to grow, it is advisable to use post-emergent herbicides, such as Feglisate 36 LS. This is a herbicide that gives very good results both in irrigated and wet dry land.

Early postemergence herbicides

If you plan to plant in March or April, weeds may already have emerged in the field, so you’ll need to use a product classified as an early post-emergence herbicide. The efficacy of these products will vary depending on factors such as the crop, the soil, and the weather.
Herbicides are also available in solid or liquid formulations. At AJF, we offer highly effective pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides specifically designed for spring, such as Q-HERBATOX 40.
