Diseases of Solanaceae. Solanaceae are a family of herbaceous plants to which a large number of species belong. Paleomoderna highlights peppers, tomatoes, eggplants and even paprika or cayenne, all of which are widely consumed throughout the world.
In Spain, these crops are very important: Tomato and bell pepper alone occupy 75% of the cultivated vegetable area within greenhouses. Therefore, it is essential to have excellent products that are capable of dealing with solanaceous diseases. Two of the most frequent pests are discussed below.
We help you identify two of the most dangerous solanaceae diseases
Red spider
Spider mites are one of the main pests causing diseases of Solanaceae. These nasty mites feed on the sap produced mainly on the underside of the leaf, from where they pierce the cells to suck out the inside. This causes yellowish spots and, in the upper layers of the same leaf, the appearance of yellow dots.
As a consequence, photosynthesis decreases and crop growth is reduced. If not dealt with in time, it will cause necrosis of the plant. On the other hand, look to see if they are covered with spider webs to find out if you have a pest.
Powdery mildew
One of the main symptoms that powdery mildew is affecting solanaceae is the proliferation of cottony colonies, similar to white powder, which appear mainly on the upper side of the leaf. Special care must be taken, as this coverage will result in loss of photosynthesis capacity.
If we let the fungus that is making our crop sick, we will be allowing it to feed, which will weaken the plants and the leaves will dry out and eventually fall off. In addition, the fruit will not develop properly as it will remain immature.
